Good Value Wine

English Wine - 18th May 2007

New Hall Vineyards, Purleigh, Essex, UK, CM3 6PN

New hall vineyards started in 1969 which was a few years before I planted my own tiny vineyard of 20 or so vines. Mine was just a hobby which I really never had sufficient time for and which ended with a move of house.

New Hall on the other hand has gone from strength to strength. I was there a few days ago at their regular spring wine tasting where we are able to taste their wines. They have three regular events every year. The one you must go to is in September. Even if you have no interest in wine you will find it enjoyable with so many activities from local youth music to a tractor pulled excursion round their vineyard.

Now I come to the amazing part of this story. Their wine is superb. I speak with years of study of low cost wine. It is my second interest after my business. At this year's spring sale I tasted four and I purchased three, Ortega 2004, Ruby Royal 2005 and Bacchus late picked 2004. I also tasted their Muller Thurgau 2005 which I found rather disappointing. Last year the 2004 Muller Thurgau was my favourite but this has either sold out or more likely they are safeguarding what they have left.
